What this building needed
Six gap sizes, three systems
From 50 mm up to 300 mm. A medical college is not one building; it is teaching blocks, wards, a hospital and service buildings joined by separations of very different widths. MegAtec 310 fits from finish-floor level on the narrower runs, MegAtec 360 takes the wall and ceiling joints, and FlexAtec 1200 covers the runs that have to stay sealed.
A sealed system where the joint has to stay watertight
FlexAtec 1200 is a sealed joint rather than a metal cover. On a hospital campus in coastal Odisha, the runs over occupied space are where a leak is most expensive, and a sealed system removes the termination detail that most often fails.
Zone III on the Odisha coast
Moderate seismic, but a heavy monsoon and cyclone exposure. As at Kolkata, the joint that fails here fails wet — the membrane and its termination do more work than the metal does.
