Zone V is not a bigger version of Zone IV
Seismic zone and annual temperature range are what actually set the movement a joint has to absorb. Guwahati sits in Zone V under IS 1893 — the highest band in the code, and the only Zone V market in our record — with an annual swing of about 10 °C to 36 °C.

Guwahati is Zone V under IS 1893 — the top of the scale, above Delhi. The design ground motion is roughly double Zone III and the joint is no longer a thermal component with a seismic allowance bolted on. It has to take large movement in more than one direction at once, return to position, and keep its anchors in the slab while doing it. That is an ASTM E-1399 Class III system, specified as one from the start.
Soft valley ground amplifies what arrives
The city sits on Brahmaputra valley alluvium. Soft deposits amplify ground shaking relative to rock, and adjacent blocks founded differently will not move together. Both effects land on the joint line, which is why the seismic gap here is set by the structural engineer’s separation calculation and should never be taken from a product catalogue.
Rain volume, not rain frequency, is the waterproofing case
Assam takes a very heavy monsoon over a short season. Roof, terrace and podium joints see high sustained volume rather than occasional wetting, so the membrane termination and the fall towards it decide whether the joint stays dry — the metal above it is rarely the leak.

Government and institutional work is specified before it is tendered, inspected by a third party, and substituted at fit-out if the specification is loose. Getting the system named at drawing stage, with the TDS and the E-1399 class attached, is what decides whether what was designed is what gets installed.
Two thousand kilometres from the factory changes the schedule, not the product
We extrude and fabricate in Delhi. On a Guwahati job a gap found wider on site than the drawing said is a fortnight, not an afternoon — so the survey before manufacture carries more weight here than anywhere else we work, and we would rather measure twice than ship twice.
