What this building needed
Zone V is not a bigger version of Zone IV
Assam sits at Z = 0.36, the top of the IS 1893 scale and more than double Zone III. The joint stops being a thermal component with a seismic allowance added and becomes a system that has to take large movement in more than one direction at once and return to position afterwards.
A hospital adds a duty the code does not mention
Corridors and wards are wet-mopped every day, and beds run on small hard castors that concentrate far more pressure than a person does. Both rule out an open-gap detail. The MegAtec 340 self-centres and sits flush, which is why it carries the trafficked floors here.
Two thousand kilometres from the factory
We extrude and fabricate in Delhi. On an Assam job a gap found wider on site than the drawing said is a fortnight, so the survey before manufacture carries more weight here than anywhere else we work.
