What this building needed
An industrial floor is a load problem before it is a movement problem
Manufacturing floors take wheeled and point loads that office joints are not rated for, and they are washed down. MegAtec 340 was chosen for its self-centring action and its load rating, not for its movement range — the 50 mm gap is undemanding by comparison.
Self-centring matters where the traffic is repetitive
A joint crossed hundreds of times a day by the same wheels in the same place will drift out of position unless it returns itself. The centring bar in the 340 is what stops that becoming a rattle and then a fixing failure.
Tirunelveli is Zone II with a narrow thermal swing
Neither the seismic nor the thermal case governs. That is the point: on this building the joint was selected against traffic and cleanability, and specifying it against movement would have produced the wrong product.
